Anil Port 9Professor and Chair, Department of Management

Anil received his Ph.D. from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1998, with a major in Management and minor in International Business.

His teaching and research interests are in Strategic Management, International Business (especially issues in emerging markets), Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Anil has taught courses in the undergraduate, MBA, Ph.D. and Executive programs.

Anil’s current research areas include: competitive dynamics, institutional theory, decision making, risk management and corporate governance. He is a member of ODU’s Emergent Risk Initiative (ERI) team. He has presented his research in various forums in Hampton Roads such as World Affairs Council, Institute of Asian Studies at ODU, Friends of ODU Perry Library, Inside Business Conference, Asian Business Association Business Expo, etc.  He consults with firms in their strategic planning process and has delivered talks on issues in strategic planning and international business.

He was the program Chair of the Entrepreneurship/Technology Management track of the Asia Academy of Management meetings for 2010 and 2015, Chair of the Professional Development Workshop for Academy of Management (AAM division) 2010 meetings in Montreal, co-Guest Editor (with Dr. Shaomin Li) of a special issue of Corporate Governance: An International Review on Corporate Governance in China and India, co-editor of special issue of Asia Pacific Journal of Management on Entrepreneurship and Innovation in India.  He serves as the Senior Editor,  Asia Pacific Journal of Management, a journal of the Asia Academy of Management. APJM has been included in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI).

Anil was actively involved in supporting Norfolk Sister City Association establish a sister city relationship between Norfolk and Kochi, India

He won the Strome College of Business Awards for Research, Service, Teaching, Doctoral Student Mentoring and the MBA Professor of the Year award in 2016.
