Since I began work at Old Dominion University, approximately 100 students (graduate and undergraduate) have worked in my lab.  Many of these were exploring research experience opportunities only, including graduate students who wanted to gain experience in field research that was typically not available in their primary research programs.  Other students have completed supervised research honors theses, master’s theses, and dissertations under my direction.  Overall, my philosophy is to give students opportunities in field (and survey) work that have an impact on community health and well being.  Whether these students choose to pursue my discipline or another, the methods and impacts among other lessons learned serve them well in their scholarly endeavors.

Students of all levels are invited to consider participating with us.  I have recruited freshman undergraduates through to advanced graduate students.  Each can play a role and learn techniques.  Those interested in pursuing work with me should contact me directly at bporter@odu.edu or 757-683-3259.
