Research Beyond the Publication Record

Research, to me, is not limited to producing papers. I have contributed as a Co-Principal Investigator on federally supported research, served as a reviewer for journals and international technical conferences, and participated in the evaluation of emerging research as a Virginia State Science Fair volunteer judge.

I have reviewed research for venues including Electronics Letters, IEEE systems conferences, CSER, IEEE energy and systems conferences, ASEM, and the Handbook of Sociotechnical Systems.

These activities reflect another dimension of my research philosophy: good research is not only about generating new knowledge, but also about developing the intellectual infrastructure through which new knowledge is evaluated, challenged, and advanced.

A Research Portfolio Designed to Cross Boundaries

My work does not fit neatly inside a single traditional research category. That is intentional.

I move between physical assets and abstract systems, algorithms and human decisions, energy harvesting and causal inference, individual machines and system-of-systems architectures. The common thread is the attempt to understand complex systems not as collections of isolated components, but as evolving structures of interactions, dependencies, decisions, and uncertainty.

The long-term goal is to develop engineering methodologies for systems that are not merely observable, but increasingly self-aware, causally informed, adaptive, and decision-capable.
