In addition to the major equipment listed below, these labs contain standard laboratory equipment such as balances, drying ovens, a muffle furnace, vacuum pumps, pH meters, O<sub>2<\/sub> microelectrodes and optodes (and associated meters and spectrophotometers), a heating\/refrigerated cooling bath, several peristaltic pumps, assorted glassware, etc. The Oceanography\/Physics Building also has 4 walk-in constant temperature rooms capable of maintaining temperatures from 2 &#8211; 30\u00b0C<\/p>\n<p>Major equipment in these lab includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">an Ace Glass UV Photo-oxidation system;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>a FluoroMax-2 scanning excitation-emission spectrofluorometer, plus fiber optics solid sample attachment;<\/li>\n<li>an HP 8453E diode array UV-Vis spectrophotometer with a sipper cell attachment, and 5 cm path-length cells (open and flow-through);<\/li>\n<li>a dual pump Rainin HPLC with a Shimadzu RF-530 fluorescence detector;<\/li>\n<li>a Dionex ICS-5000 ion chromatograph with a gradient pump, electrochemical detector, eluent regenerator and autosampler;<\/li>\n<li>a flow injection analysis system containing two Rainin HPLC pumps and a Dionex conductivity detector (CDM-II), capable of DIC or ammonium analyses;<\/li>\n<li>a Coy anaerobic chamber;<\/li>\n<li>a high speed bench-top refrigerated centrifuge with a sea-going gimble stand;<\/li>\n<li>a UIC model CM5014 CO2 coulometer with acidification and gas sparging module;<\/li>\n<li>a Brinkmann Metrohm 785 DMP Titrino automated titrator;<\/li>\n<li>a Shimadzu TOC-V with TNM-1 module, for the determination of dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen (DOC and DON);<\/li>\n<li>a Shimadzu GC-8AIF gas chromatograph with FID and methanizer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences also possesses the following field equipment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the 55 foot coastal research vessel R\/V Fay Slover;<\/li>\n<li>several small boats and motors; a spade box corer;<\/li>\n<li>an Ocean Instruments MC 400 Multi-corer (the small, \u201clake\/shelf\u201d corer capable of collecting 4 cores per deployment).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shop facilities for the construction of field equipment are readily available on campus.
