Maps are more than location, I am involved in projects to support the use of maps as learning tools for K-12 geographic education. Everything is geographic!<br>For basic tenets guide the work:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maps are more than location.<\/li>\n<li>Inquiry unlocks meaning.<\/li>\n<li>Interaction supports learning.<\/li>\n<li>He or she who makes the map learns the most.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #cc99ff\"><strong>Teacher Workshops<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each year teacher workshops to support the integration of GIS into the<a href=\"https:\/\/fs.wp.odu.edu\/ghribar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1333\/2016\/04\/20150721_095852-e1469205712210.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-123\" src=\"https:\/\/fs.wp.odu.edu\/ghribar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1333\/2016\/04\/20150721_095852-e1469205712210-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"20150721_095852\" width=\"179\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fs.wp.odu.edu\/ghribar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1333\/2016\/04\/20150721_095852-e1469205712210-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fs.wp.odu.edu\/ghribar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1333\/2016\/04\/20150721_095852-e1469205712210.jpg 188w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/a> K-12 curriculum are offered. The workshops have been supported by grants from the ESRI ConnectED initiative and the Virginia Geographic Alliance.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9b51e0\"><strong>Placing Primary Sources<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Collaboration with the Library of Congress and the Virginia Geographic Alliance produced 11 story maps to feature key topics in American history based on primary sources from the Library of Congress. Six teacher &#8220;researchers&#8221; developed story maps featuring primary sources, guiding questions, and accompanying support materials. View the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/primary-sources\/\">Placing Primary Sources<\/a> site.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9b51e0\"><strong>Virginia GeoInquiries<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p>In collaboration with Esri, the Virginia Geographic Alliance was awarded a grant to develop 5 state-specific GeoInquiries. GeoInquiries&#x2122; &#8220;are short, standards-based inquiry activities for teaching map-based&nbsp;content.  Each activity is designed using a common&nbsp;inquiry model and can be presented quickly from a single computer and projector or&nbsp;modified for students\u2019 hands-on engagement. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flipsnack.com\/67B9869C5A8\/guide-to-the-virginia-geoinquiries\/full-view.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.flipsnack.com\/67B9869C5A8\/guide-to-the-virginia-geoinquiries\/full-view.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virginia Geoinquiries<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">An Atlas of Virginia<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third edition of An Atlas of Virginia was produced through collaboration of members of the Virginia Geographic Alliance.
