Graduate Research Assistant

Human System Engineering Laboratory (HSEL)

The Human System Engineering Laboratory of the Engineering Management and System Engineering Department, part of the Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University seeks a doctoral graduate student to support research exploring the intersection of System Engineering and Human System Integration.

The research at the Human System Engineering insures efficient processes and flow of data between the technology elements and the human users. Human system engineering specializes in the interactions between humans, humans with systems, and with automation.  Current research work focuses on modeling and simulation of human-systems using a variety of tools including two tools from the Army Research Labs, including IMPRINT and JASS, as well as system architecting methods to include human users using tools from small business partners, including Architex. Students interested in working on these projects involving socio-technical systems should have a background in systems engineering, or similar, and a willingness to learn the simulation and architecting tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or Related Field (Computer Science, Industrial Psychology, etc.)
  • Experience with Model Based Design and Simulation
  • Interest in Human Performance Modeling
