He recently accepted a position at Old Dominion University as a graduate teaching assistant and doctoral student in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.odu.edu\/academics\/programs\/doctoral\/occupational-technical-studies\">Occupational &amp; Technical Studies<\/a> academic program. Jorge is also a National Faculty of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bie.org\/about\">Buck Institute for Education<\/a> and a National Teacher Effectiveness Coach with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iteea.org\/About.aspx\">International Technology and Engineering Educators Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He has earned the honor of being a distinguished STEM educator by the Teachers College at Columbia University by earning the NASA Endeavor STEM Teaching Certificate. Also, Jorge is part of the first <a href=\"http:\/\/littlebits.cc\/jorge-valenzuela\">littleBits Lead Educator<\/a> cohort; and a certified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pltw.org\/our-programs\/pltw-gateway-curriculum\">Project Lead the Way<\/a>, Design and Modeling teacher.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2017, Jorge participated as an expert panel member in the <a href=\"http:\/\/ctepolicywatch.acteonline.org\/2017\/01\/senate-cte-caucus-holds-briefing-on-infrastructure-and-cte.html\">U.S. Senate Career and Technical Education Caucus briefing<\/a> to discuss how federal policy can support the intersection of infrastructure and Career and Technical Education (CTE). Also, his statement is in the bipartisan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaine.senate.gov\/press-releases\/kaine-leads-bipartisan-bill-to-redesign-high-school-with-greater-cte-focus\">CTE Excellence and Equity Act press release<\/a> proposed to support redesigning high schools with more CTE focus.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, he supervised the Technology and Engineering Education program at Richmond Public Schools and served school division priorities with STEM leadership projects that integrate and connect both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=25CcChAgqNc\">academic and CTE<\/a> K-12 classrooms to higher education and the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>Jorge is extremely dedicated to assisting educators to enhance their practice, by conducting effective professional development in the areas of Project-Based Learning, Integrative STEM Education (Computer Science and Engineering), and Backward Design Planning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jorge Valenzuela has served as an educator for the past 14 years and holds both computer science and administrative credentials.
