First Trip to Baku — 4 Day Four

Photos from the window of the conference room where we are meeting. The photo on the left features Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium (futbol and soccer). The green space in both photos is what remains of a large park that had been overtaken by criminals and drug addicts and is part of the campus. The master plan preserves as much of the green space as possible. The photo on the right includes a very small (to the right of center) section of the Heydar Aliyev Centre…a beautiful building full of swoops and swirls. Architecture here represents four periods or types…Islamic , Russian Imperial and AZ Democratic Republic era (Victorian and turn of the 20th century); Soviet architecture (square plain); Late Modernism and Post-Modern (ultra contemporary design like the Aliyev Centre). Beautiful inconsistencies and extremes!
