My research focuses on interactions in medical settings, including manifestations and perceptions of power and solidarity,  communication styles of providers (most notably nurse practitioners) and patients. I examine  how these interactional styles aid in the construction of particular identities in medical visits. I am also interested in how large scale ideologies are manifested in and influence the discourse within this micro setting.
