  • [grant] ‘Virtual Technical Library (VTL) Digitization Toolkit Plus project sponsored by Military Sealift Command with PI Kovacic has started in October. Dr. Park will utilize the Temporal Multivariate Multimodal Learning to develop a system reliability model.

  • [grant] Dr. Park will join as a consultant for Connected Communities for Smart Mobility Toward Accessible and Resilient Transportation for Equitably Reducing Congestion, USDOT Center led by NYU. Dr. Park was the Co-PI of this proposal.
  • [conference] One paper titled “Data-Driven Machine Learning Models for Estimation of Per- and Poly-Alkyl Substances (PFAS) Partitioning on various surface materials” was presented at the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Research and Education Conference, 2023
  • [grant] Two NSF projects will be transferred to ODU.
  • [job] Dr. Yoon, formal postdoc (supervised by Dr. Park), started as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Seoul National University, the 1st ranked university in South Korea.
  • [conference] One paper titled “Advancing Temporal Multimodal Multivariate Learning Physics Informed Regularization” was presented at the IEEE 57th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS), in Johns Hopkins University, 2023
  • [grant] Center for Regional and Rural Connected Communities (CR2C2), $15 million (2023-2028) USDOT Center with Dr. Park as a Co-PI was funded.
  • [grant] Improving Long-range Planning Models for Feasibility Analysis of Mileage-based User Fees as an Alternative Revenue Stream (2023-2025) with Dr. Pandley as a PI and Dr. Park as a Co-PI was funded by NCDOT.
  • [job] Justice Darko, PhD, started job at Rockwell Automation as senior research scientist after Postdoc with Dr. Park.  
  • [conference] One paper titled “Advancing Temporal Multimodal Multivariate Learning,” was presented at the workshop 5004: State of the Art in Deep Learning and Its Applications in Transportation during The 102nd Annual Meeting of Transportation Research Board, 2023.
  • [job] Dedrick Barkley, M.S, started job at Chrysler as a research scientist.

  • [conference] A paper “Scalable Information-Theoretic Path Planning for a Rover-Helicopter Team in Uncertain Environments” by L. Folsom, Ono, Otsu, Park in collaboration with JPL has been accepted for publication at the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems.
  • [conference] A paper “Safe and Efficient Airport Evacuation considering Pedestrian Dynamics” by Pugh, ParkDerjany, Namalie, Liu in collaboration with ERAU has been accepted for publication at the IET Intelligent Transport Systems.
  • Justice Darko won 2nd place at the NCDOT 2020 Summit Poster Competition.
  • Chancellors Distinguished PhD Fellow Nigel Pugh won Honorable Mention at the INFORMS 2020 MIF Student Poster Competition.
  • Nigel Pugh won USDOT 2020 Outstanding Students of the Year Award at the Annual meeting of TRB2021.

  • Dr. Park’s United States Patent Application USSN 16/254,474 “Transportation Infrastructure Location and Redeployment” has been awarded in Jan 2020.
  • An interesting project sponsored by NASA JPL “UAS-based Active Hurricane Sensing with Information-theoretic Path Planning” started in collaboration with Hui Su (Principal, Engineering and Science Directorate) from Stratosphere and Upper Troposphere (329D) and Masahiro Ono (Research Technologist) from Robotic Surface Mobility (347F) with a period of throughout the year of 2020.
  • PhD Candidate Larkin Folsom received one of 2019 Outstanding Students of the Year Award at the Annual meeting of TRB2020, during the Council of University Transportation Centers Banquet Published here, recognized by US Department of Transportation. More Details
