Cody Raeder, M.S.

Cody Raeder started the Health Psychology Program in 2015 and is mentored by Dr. James M. Henson. His research interests include social anxiety and its relationship to cannabis and alcohol  use, as well as the relationship between trait mindfulness and substance use behaviors.

Samantha Fitzer, B.S.

Samantha joined the Health Behavior Research Lab in 2020 as a graduate student in the Health Psychology Ph.D. at ODU. She graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Neuroscience. While completing her undergraduate degree, Samantha was involved in research focused on sleep and health where she conducted her honors thesis on white noise and sleep quality. She is generally interested in using scientific practices to understand humans and their behavior as it relates to health and functioning. More specifically, Samantha is interested in what predisposes individuals to risky health behaviors, and how we can better tailor interventions to help these individuals. During her free time Samantha enjoys reading, baking, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Stephen Hanson, B.S.

Stephen Hanson is a current graduate student at Old Dominion University in the Health Psychology program. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Psychology with a focus in addiction studies. Stephen’s research interests lay broadly in substance use among young adults, as well as adolescents. More specifically, Stephen is interested in impulsivity and harm perception, as well as long term outcomes.
