This is EXACTLY what we started talking about this week: one of the major transitions in evolution is considered to be the transition from unicellular to multicellular life.  We discuss this with particular attention to dictyostelid slime molds (which live part of their life cycles as single-celled amoebae and part as multicellular slugs).  It’s amazing that we have actually been able to observe this in an entirely new way in the lab!
COOL!
