Pro-glacial lakes
Funded by NASA (Solar System Workings Program), this project seeks to understand how groundwater seepage into lakes impacts the sedimentology and mineralogy of basaltic terrains. We are studying pro-glacial lakes (Sandvatn) in Iceland as Earth analogs for Martian research. Our team is using radon as a tracer of surface water-groundwater mixing to determine rates of mineral chemical weathering.
