The 13 exercises in this technique exam are used to measure technical mastery of the instrument. The grid inside contains metronome markings matched with points. Faster tempos earn more points, except for one exercise that works the other way round. All ODU trombone/euphonium students will take the exam three times each year; the exam never changes. You must make an 80-100 point gain each year to advance to the next level of study.
This is quite an objective measure of technique. It is not graded and does not affect the applied music grade. It is designed as a snapshot of your technical progress. You will make gains in the test naturally and easily as your mastery of the instrument grows through steady practice.
